History

Meubles D'Epoque Dancause
A delight both to view and to touch, this is the aim of Lauri Dancause’s furnit ure creation.

Respect for Traditional Methods:

Mr. Dancause attaches great importance to preserving the character of the antique furniture he makes. He goes above and beyond the standards of today. His furniture is assembled using the pegged mortise and tenon technique. The paint used in finishing his products is made from milk and respects the techniques of the times. Wood, design, dyes, waxes, varnish and natural oils are selected according to the historic character of the piece. Given his commitment to authenticity, Mr. Dancause uses only antique-style hardware.

Creation of Unique Customized Furniture:

Mr. Dancause has of course created models that reproduce the furniture of the nineteenth century, but each piece meets a specific need expressed by a client. Its size, its colors and dimensions are all tailored to the precise location in the home in which it is to be installed.

Integrating the Piece of Furniture into a Room:

A major creative effort is made for each order, with the assistance of the client, so that the period furniture becomes an esthetic component that adds to the charm and originality of a room. An object of beauty in itself, a piece of period furniture designed for a specific location enhances, through its presence and its harmonious integration with other elements of décor, a living room, den, dining room, bathroom or bedroom. Antique furniture revives, in modern homes, the delicacy of a job well done resulting from a long tradition of craftsmanship, the esthetic and the warm atmosphere of Quebec lumber, and the practical nature of beautiful and useful furniture.

A passionate craftsman, Lauri Dancause has sought out cabinet makers and experts in antique finishes in order to refine his skills and thus ensure compliance with the ancestral methods of the art of French Canadian furniture, while incorporating his artistic and creative vision.

A rich tradition distinguishes the beautiful cupboards, dining tables, bathroom cabinets and other pieces created by this Paulois craftsman. Each piece of furniture built reveals the patience and thoroughness shown by the designer and, at the same time, his personal touch.
